 ABOUT AUSTRIA

  • Austria, largely mountainous landlocked country of south-central Europe. Together with Switzerland, it forms what has been characterized as the neutral core of Europe, notwithstanding Austria’s full membership since 1995 in the supranational European Union (EU).
  • Austria is bordered to the north by the Czech Republic, to the northeast by Slovakia, to the east by Hungary, to the south by Slovenia, to the southwest by Italy, to the west by Switzerland and Liechtenstein, and to the northwest by Germany. It extends roughly 360 miles (580 km) from east to west.

MEDICAL COUNCIL INFORMATION

The Chamber was established in its current form in 1891. There are 9 regional Medical Chambers (one in each Austrian province), for which the Austrian Medical Chamber acts as an umbrella association under public law. All of the 43,000 doctors exercising their profession are members of the Medical Chamber of the province in which they work. Work in Austria each provincial Medical Chamber is structured into two bodies (“Kurien”), one for hospital physicians, and one for self-employed doctors.

In general, the provincial Medical Chambers are responsible for representing the doctors in their respective provinces. This implies that most of the operative duties fall under their competence. The Austrian Medical Chamber, on the other hand, assumes responsibility for matters which concern the whole country, the emphasis being on strategic activities.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Represents the physicians’ professional, social, and economic interests
  • Constitutes the competent national authority for doctors in Austria
  • Coordinates admission to and administration of the medical register
  • Serves as the competent authority for conducting specialist/GP qualifying exams, issuing specialist/GP diplomas, and recognizing foreign medical qualifications

The Medical test comprises the following subjects

  • Internal medicine, surgery, and pediatrics – 30 questions each
  • Neurology, gynecology, dermatology, and emergency medicine – 25 questions each
  • Otorhinolaryngology, otolaryngology, psychiatry, ophthalmology – 20 questions each
RESULTS FOR DOCTORS

A department is considered to have been successfully completed if at least 60% of the questions are answered correctly.

ATTEMPTS OF EXAMS

The Medical test for the Nostrification of the study of human medicine/ dentistry has been carried out jointly by all medical universities in Austria since 2017. The Aptitude test takes place several times a year. The exact date will be communicated to all affected Nostrification applicants in good time.

DENTAL COUNCIL INFORMATION

Austrian Dental Chamber (Österreichische Zahnärztekammer)

  • Since 2006 the Austrian Dental Chamber is the professional representation of all dental practitioners (dentists) in Austria.
  • All members of the Austrian Dental Chamber are corresponding to one of the nine regional dental chambers (Landeszahnärztekammern), which have mostly autonomy on finances, staff, and contracts. All members of the Austrian Dental Chamber are further members of the pension fund of the Landesärztekammer and are represented in their committees. To Work in Austria
  • The Austrian Dental Chamber is assigned to look after and advance the common economic, professional, and social interests of its members and also cares for the protection of professional ethics and duties.
  • Because of this generally official task, the Austrian Dental Chamber has many responsibilities to act on the competence of its own behalf and on the transferred competence (on behalf of the state).

Organizational Structure

STEPS FOR GETTING AUSTRIAN MEDICAL REGISTRATION

STEP 1:

Learning German language A1 to C1 and preparation for Medical exam:

A) If candidates learn German A1 to C1 level + Medical exam preparation in the home country through our faculty, after preparation is done can apply for Nostrification to register for the exam date.

B) If the candidate wants to learn till C1 + Medical exam preparation in Austria.

APPLY LONG TERM D TYPE NATIONAL VISA- Such a case Blocked Account is needed (11500 euro).

STEP 2:

Applying for Nostrification/Recognition for foreign diploma or degree:

What does “Nostrification” mean?

Nostrification is the recognition of a degree obtained from a recognized foreign post-secondary educational institution as a degree from a regular domestic degree. By successfully completing a Nostrification procedure at the Medical University of Vienna, Graz, Innsbruck and other all Austrian medical universities, the entitlement to hold the domestic academic degree “Doctor / in all medical science”, Latin the name “Doctor medicine universe”, is abbreviated “Dr. Med. univ. ” and Dentistry (Dr.Med.dent.).

STEP 3:

After Nostrification, Council allows the exam dates held in the university.

STEP 4:

After getting an exam date, apply for a visa, on approval fly to Austria, Write the exam, results announced in 2 to 3 weeks.

STEP 5:

After passing the medical exam, get registration in the medical chamber of Austria, Start your Residency.
